1:41 it looks like he might have lost his hand there, that's why they cut the clip

There is no doubt that letterpress was a wonderful time to work BUT what is not mentioned is the amount of horrendous accidents that were caused on these unguarded machines, burns, hands crushed and fingers torn off. And as commented they are few left that remember the smell and the heat in a printing machine room but we all have fond memories. A very, very good look back. Loved it

Classics stick for a reason - this works, and will always work, as long as there is someone who knows how to do it! :)

My boss has two if you are really intrested?

If you compare the two it really takes a level of attention and finese to run a letterpress. REALLY A ART FORM.I come from both schools. Letterpress and offset.Im running a cheap 2/c and 4/c offset press and giant plastic digital press. Because this world today its all about quicker and faster. Its really sad. sometimes our old dusty letterpress and lighttables look like they are staring at us when they just sit there and collect dust.

That guy is a Master Printer, there is a lot of skill in doing what he is doing. My Father was a letterpress Printer, my brother was a linotype operator and compositor. Me, I broke my dads heart and became a litho printer. I did operate a Heidelberg Platen for a few years though, and let me tell you its a lot harder than offset. |
